A few months ago, I went to the office to look for my supervisor. But, my supervisor met an accident and was on leave for a couple of days.

I went there quite a few times but couldn’t meet him. Since I don’t wanna fan the air anymore, so I tried to ask his colleague beside - Mr. Yau, what happen to my supervisor.

Me: Mr. Yau, may I know where is Mr. Siew (name of my supervisor)? I can’t find him since a few days ago.

Mr Yau: 哦。他發生車禍，請假幾天。你下個星期才來找他啦！(He met an accident and is on leave, you come next week lah~!)

#I was surprised, and silent for a while.#

I murmured to myself: He speaks to me in Mandarin neh!
So I replied in Mandarin too.

Me: 哦。好的。謝謝。(Oh! ok. Thanks!)

From that moment on, I assume he will talk to students in Mandarin during informal occasions.

Today, I went to see my supervisor again. Again, he was not in the room. Hence, I asked that Mr. Yau sitting beside.

Me: Mr. Yau，請問Mr. Siew去了哪裏？

Mr. Yau: Oh. He went out for a while, but wonder where he goes. You come back later lah!

Again, another surprise from Mr. Yau. -_-!!! He spoke to me in English. So, I start to be confused… What should I talk to him next time when my supervisor is not in the room again.

I start wondering. Hmmm………

Perhaps, I should talk to him in Hokkien.

Me: Halo, Mr Yau. 我的先生擱再拍毋見了。伊到底走去叨位？

Perhaps, he might reply in Cantonese.

Mr. Yau: 唔知wo! 佢哩條友成日都唔知去咗邊度。你等陣先返來啦！
