Rainforest World Music Festival

去年大學時候,學校舉辦了一個跨文化的交融計劃,讓我知道原來東馬砂拉越州每年會主辦一個“熱帶雨林世界音樂會(Rainforest World Music Festival)”或簡稱RWMF。

就是那個文化交融計劃讓我首次接觸了這個音樂會。真是可惜,怎麽馬來西亞旅遊局這些年來都沒有爲這樣好的音樂會做宣傳呢?

自小在城市長大,其實滿嚮往寧靜安詳的東馬的。這次配合“2007馬來西亞旅遊年”這個音樂會終于移師檳城,不在婆羅洲進行。

這可樂壞了我,2007年7月我一定要買票入場!

呵呵,光良Siti Nurhaliza的演唱會,有人獻議我超值入場券,我也不去了。反正這兩個不同世界的人一起開唱,有一點怪異,他們的歌我也不喜歡。

我把RWMF的其中一首曲目擺在右邊的播放器裏。慢慢欣賞來自馬來西亞東部的音樂吧!

Penang To Host World Music Festival

PENANG, Nov 26 (bernama) — Penang will play host to the World Music Festival (WMF) in July next year, in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2007 (VMY07).

So far, musicians from Brazil, Germany, India and Brunei have confirmed participation with more are expected to sign up.

State Tourism Development and Environment Committee chairman Teng Chang Yeow said hosting the concert come as a bonus for Penang’s tourism industry as it would generate good business for industry players.

It will be first time that the World Music Festival, known as the Rainforest World Music Festival, is held outside Sarawak.

The date for the concert has yet to be fixed but it has been slated over three nights in July aimed at foreign tourists next year.

“Several sectors will benefit from this concert and we will do our best to get tourists to stay and shop in Penang during Visit Malaysia Year 2007,” Teng told reporters after opening the national orchid exhibition 2006 here Sunday.

Penang was chosen by the Tourism Ministry to host the concert which is expected to cost RM1.5 million to organise, he said adding that the Botanical Garden had been proposed as the venue.

The state government had earlier suggested that the concert be held at at the Penang National Park in Telok Bahang but it was rejected by the Tourism Ministry and it did not want the habitat of the various animal species in the jungle to be disturbed.

The World Music Festival is a unique concert where musicians who come from all over the world use environment-friendly instruments to make good music.

Countries represented in past concerts include Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Madagascar, Mali, South Korea, Turkey, Austria, France, Scotland and Canada.
